Comment on RWBY REMX: Volume VIII

  1. Thanks for the well wishes!

And yeah, I have been consistently underwhelmed with how Weiss and her trauma is handled in the later volumes of the show... which is to say they aren't really handled at all and she's just kind of Around. Even if the stuff going on in this arc in Atlas might be a bit bigger stakes than Weiss's personal story, I still felt like there needed to be some more focus on it and some actual closure rather than just "she arrests her dad and That's It." Plus, it helps that I can draw some inspiration from my own life when writing things for her (the flashback in particular is actually based on a similar memory I have about my own mother, whom I also have a complicated relationship with).

And yeah! Since I've already established Blake considers Weiss her best friend, it only made sense to me that she's going to call Ruby out on the way she's acting. Plus, Blake and Ruby barely get to interact one-on-one in the show, so I like sprinkling in some moments with just the two of them in where I can fit them so there's a clearer sense of what their specific dynamic is.

    1. I think your explanation is well put. I can also relate to the parent issue. I had a British mother, which means she was very stoic and a little hands off. And then I had a father who was a complete ass hat like Weiss’ father, which is why I relate so much to her. It sucks, but I’m a better person now for understanding that the behaviors weren’t right. And I make sure not to push it on my own daughter.
