AO3 is lovely, but I do wish it had a more direct messaging system. In regards to my bookmark notations, it wasn't a criticism or meant as commentary. I discovered that I could leave myself notes and I went a bit crazy as it helps me remember what I like and want to know about a fic or author. Often by the time I come back to a fic I have forgotten what I need to know and have to reread it again which takes too long.
I have what could politely be called a mild cognitive imparment but is really just brain damage. I mean that literally, as in actual brain damage. I had to get speech therapy and everything. I struggle to both read and write, and have a severe short-term memory impairment that makes both recalling & storing information a slow process. I can think just fine, it just takes much longer than what most people are comfortable with when having a conversation. The silences while I am just processing what was said & what to say are extremely awkward and painful. Reading, depending on the font, formating and sites sometimes just becomes an uniteligable mess. I can do it, but that takes a long looooooong time. Actually writing something, haha I wish! Thank goodness for voice-to-text and read-outloud apps, otherwise I'd still be typing the first sentence.
When I read here, I actually mean I listen. I download all works I follow and listen to your wonderful stories. Now formatting is very different audibly compared to visually. And a lot of the visual decisions authors make are tragically lost on me. Sometimes they will use characters that strong disagree with voice to text emersion. You will see *tree* and I will hear asterisk tree asterisk. The wingdings strings or 20 tildas are awful. But the worst? The worst is when they use like 50 Xs. I had my car audio accidentally sync to my phone once when I was listening to a fic, and the break just happened to be a bunch of Xs. If you say multiple Xs together it basically sounds like youre muttering sex under your breath a lot fast. So there I was in the middle of the grocery parking, simultaneosly scrambling to put my groceries down, unsync my phone and turn off my car speakers, all while it was blaring SexSexSex outloud like a rabid hyena on steroids. It was SO embarrassing!! I will never forgive authors who abuse the power of Xs for scene breaks like that. Just use a fucking tilda and center it, there's no excuse!
You are kindly writing wonderful stories here for free, and have the artistic license to do whatever you please. Please don't take my bookmark notes as an expectation for audio friendliness or ADA compliance. It is simply helpful for me to note so in the future when I listen to your works, I remember it is worth editing the whole story for full emersion before I begin.
