Comment on Release Notes 0.8.17

  1. I understand easing the server strain, because anything that gets rid of the 502 is generally a great thing, but I really hate the grouped kudos, so that kinda sucks. If it was bundled by fic, that'd be cleaner-cut for me and my organizational OCD, but as long as I can still get an email to tell me people are leaving them, I'll learn to survive.

Thanks for the answer, I'd tried to look around a bit to see if I could find an explanation, but the page took almost two minutes just to let me read other comments when I was looking earlier, so I'd given up my search.

No problem, you needed the answer and I had it.

I'm pretty sure the grouped kudos is a temporary thing. I hope so at least. I know I'd much prefer seperate kudos e-mails just because a whole truckload of e-mails says 'people like your stuff! :D' better than one e-mail with however many kudos the great lot is. Hopefully once AO3 can comfortably handle the traffic we'll get separated e-mails again!

      1. Exactly! It feeds the needy starving author in all of us to see this whole page of kudos and comments in your inbox. It's a moment of "you like me, you really like me!".

If they get things straightened out, I'll definitely be asking for that, or at very least see if they can code to separate e-mails per fic even if they can't do separate kudos entirely.

I think I was still getting straggler kudos emails the last few days, because I hadn't realized the change went through earlier.

Ohhh yes. I've only published one fic so far and its fandom only really has a following on fanfiction.net so I haven't got any kudos yet, but I have a whole separate section at the top of my gmail inbox with a green tag saying 'KUDOS' next to the shiny faves and reviews. It's a little confidence booster every time I see them.

I'd agree on sending out kudos by fic as a good compromise between one kudos an email and bundling the whole lot.

          1. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you here - things have been a little crazy with our performance issues. Thanks for the feedback on the kudos emails. Once things have calmed down a little around here, we'll review the batched emails again and think about whether we can make any further improvements.

In the meantime, you can gaze lovingly at all the numbers of kudos for particular works by going to your user stats page. :)
