no offence meant, but the idea that nobles would stop and listen to the first idiot peasant passing by - during a trial! - is just beyond absurd. and the guy having is way too. pffff. and that is just ONE thing, but I could mention another dozen problems with this chapter (HORRIBLE dialogue and so on). the whole scene is frankly... i don't even have words.
No offence earned. I'm aware the first chapter is kind of a first draft a bit reworked but not beyond.
Concerning the nobles... I understand where you're coming from. However, if life taught me a thing is that people aren't the most logical or smartest. And we're talking of Robert Baratheon, one of the least uptight nobles and kings in Westerosi for different reasons. It could have been executed in a better manner, I grant that. The alternative that would have worked likely better would have something akin to a maester. Not noble because a) the SI don't like lying and b) I doubt that would have worked well, even less as people don't like being taken for fools, even if I felt many in Westeros are blinded or egoistical fools. That would have worked even less due to the fact m'y idea is that the SI is in Westerosi very recently.
But my beta reader only arrived with the seventh chapter and I was working on improving how to imagine each new scene and to improve how to rectify mistakes and clarity.
