    OOOOOF wow that's so real, and oof, the unspoken gulf it creates between Elizabeth and Jane and the way Elizabeth shoulders it alone. Wonderful character moment.

    thanks so much! I think canon!Elizabeth is a person who seems very 'extroverted' and sociable but is actually reserved in a very real way underneath that ("There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well"). I think that this scenario would increase that isolation and reserve a lot.
