Summary
Spoilers for Watcher Weekly #004.
It was time to film the 4th episode of Watcher Weekly. Since starting this company with Ryan and Shane, Steven had felt included in nearly every aspect; creative collaboration, finances, hard work, and he also felt like he was getting closer to Ryan as a friend, and really getting to know Shane as one as well. However, there was one aspect in which he did not feel included. Actually, it was an aspect in which he didn't even want to be included. It was something that the staff would joke about and Steven was dimly aware that the fans sometimes mentioned it too. He'd honestly thought it really was a joke until spending extended hours with Shane and Ryan revealed something to Steven that lingered just beneath the surface, threatening to break through.

Sara had come by that day to help shoulder some of the editing during a particularly tight time crunch. Steven had liked Sara as a person since they had both started working at Buzzfeed. She was smart and sarcastic in a no nonsense sort of way, creative and easy to be around. He was also endlessly grateful that they had an extra person there who would pop in from time to time to help out while they were still trying to figure out their staffing needs. While their team was taking a break from editing, Steven found himself watching Shane and Ryan and their bizarre dynamic. Buzzfeed was an incredibly physically affectionate environment, despite Shane being a bit more closed off, Ryan often sporting his former frat boy resistance to it, and Steven lingering on the shy side of things. Sure Steven had given into the physical affection at times for the sake of others who were just naturally affectionate like Zach in their episode of "Worth It," but that was also why Ryan's sudden affection had thrown him completely off guard.

"No, it'll be you and me on the couch," Ryan corrected. "That's the order."
"There is no order," Shane replied, rolling his eyes.
"Yes. There is," Ryan returned.
"No, there's not," Shane argued. "It went you and me, Steven and me, you and Steven, then Steven and me again. How is that an order?"

Spoilers for Watcher Weekly #006.
The tension between Ryan and Shane was so thick that it was even more obvious than their normal obvious flirtations. Steven had no idea what happened on their movie night but there was a definite shift. There was a noticeable physical distance that they were consciously keeping from one another. Conversation didn't flow as naturally and the office had at times been uncomfortably silent. Steven wondered what would happen now that they would be starting to shoot their Buzzfeed shows again. He made sure to stay in touch with Sara just to see what he was going to be in for. When it came time to film the 6th episode for Watcher Weekly, there was again another shift.

Shane balanced his elbow on the back of the couch, rubbing his hands across his face as he described in detail what had happened. Sara listened openly, her fingers gently resting on Shane's arm as he recounted everything. She managed to conceal her enthusiasm pretty well, but she wasn't at all surprised. She had seen this coming for awhile.
"So what are you gonna do now?" she asked softly.

After work, Shane had gone home and Ryan had driven to his place to pick up Mari. Sara and she wouldn't tell Shane and Ryan where they were going, but they were going to catch a Lyft there and then head back to Mari's later that night.
"What is it like a club or a coffeehouse or a--" Ryan had asked Mari as they pulled up in front of Sara and Shane's apartment.
Mari had silenced him with a soft kiss to his neck, pulling back to gaze at him pointedly. "Sweetie, you and Shane have your secret stuff, Sara and I have ours."

"Where's Ryan?" Steven asked Shane, noting that his other co-founder hadn't shown up yet.
Shane shrugged in reply, hiding his blush behind a mug of coffee with The Professor's face printed on it.
Steven's phone buzzed with a text from Ryan.
From Ryan: Hey man, sorry won't be be able to make it in today. I feel like shit. Don't worry, you'll still have the Shanester.
Steven set his mouth into a fine line, glancing from his screen toward Shane who had already begun checking his e-mails on his computer.
"So Ryan's sick today," Steven began, walking over to Shane's desk. "Only he sent the text to me, and not to our group chat."
He stopped in front of Shane and raised his eyebrows. Steven was definitely the more outwardly sweet and innocent one of the group, but his sharp intelligence was nothing to scoff at. When Steven remained silent, standing there in expectation, Shane let out a sigh, dropping his gaze slightly. He had to hand it to Steven that the man was pretty good at getting what he wanted.
