Iruka has a sweetheart of a doting civilian boyfriend (the photographer, Sukea) in public, but in the privacy of their apartments, or the forests around Konoha, he has a devoted if slightly mad pet jounin (the last of the wolfy Hakate, Kakashi). It works for them.

Notes:

. . .despite all the shenanigans (and lying) in this, the most defining traits of Kakashi/Iruka's relationship in this series are most likely laughter, understanding/honesty, and balance.
