After the walk of shame back home last time, disheveled and dragging back several pieces of (very much counterfeit) art, you're not sure you can look that bastard in the eyes again.
But, Blathers is hopeful, the art exhibit is mostly still empty, and you're too damn nice. So a few weeks later, when you see the smog clouding the distant sky at the Northernmost part of the island, you begrudgingly make your way back to the Treasure Trawler.Series

You wish you could say you stood up and walked off of the boat with a shred of your dignity intact, finishing your purchase and going home like you really fucking should.
But as it is, your legs are jelly, Redd would stop you too easily, and honestly, you won't lie to yourself and say you actually want to leave. So you stay right where you are, on the (questionably clean) floorboards of the Treasure Trawler, next to Redd.

Redd's head whips around to the sound of your voice so fast you almost have the decency to feel bad. The genuine surprise in his eyes isn't dimmed in the slightest by his breathless "Fuckin' 𝘩𝘶𝘩??"
You try to hide the sheepish grin threatening to break across your face. (You really don't do a very good job.) "Well, just... That's supposed to be 'Rooster and Hen with Hydrangeas', isn't it? The hydrangeas. They're supposed to be blue. You, ah, painted them purple."
He blinks, dumbfounded, mouth agape as you walk up to inspect the raffle box. "Where the 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬 have you been?" He sounds a little hurt, a lot relieved.

You do not have a restful sleep.
Less than an hour after you fall asleep, before Redd even drifts off in his makeshift bed next to you, he hears you make a soft noise. His eyes open immediately, darting around the room in concern. Once he's certain there's no imminent threat, he quietly sits up so that he can see you where you lay in his bed. 'Still asleep,' he thinks, intrigued. He wonders if maybe you're having a nightmare? Maybe you're scared, or-
In the dim light, he sees you unconsciously bury your face into the blanket that smells so strongly of him, and hears the uninhibited whine that drags itself from your throat. A delighted grin spreads across his face.
Definitely not a nightmare.
