Summary
There is a shadow in the forest. Well, there's lots of shadows. But the one Tokoyami is so focused on takes the shape of something vaguely human, something with long, dark wings instead of arms and pale yellow eyes, something nigh eight feet tall that he shares some sort of silent kinsmanship with.
Fukurō has lived a long life for a bird, quirked or not, but still doesn't understand the humans he hides among. Wise old owl, his ass. But a cold wind has been creeping into his safe haven for a long time now, and what he sees in the boy may just play an important part in the many years to come. He will not be around to watch it all play out, but the chicks he's raised over the years will thank Tokoyami in his stead.
