Description:

Larry Niven's Ringworld, with some modifications from Philip José Farmer's “Riverworld” and John Varley's “Gaea trilogy”. 3,000,000 times the area of Globe Earth (hence ~5.9e14 sq miles), a gently curved ring that rotates in place ten miles above The Ice. The azimuthal flat projection of Earth is laid on in one spot, Mars in another (covered in xenon 129 and split like Iapetus), even Kzin. Through it all runs a river on the order of 6e8 miles long (~40x that of canon Riverworld's ~107), with species of winged people and Centauroids. Inhabitants can see the glittering darkness to one side at night, and yawning empty blackness to the other, their gravitational normal being in line with what would be centrifugal force had its builders chosen to use so primitive a technology.

Some conjecture it to be just a cog in a vast machine that includes the shining Galactic Disc world-pond, towering Yggdrasil, and the Entropy Engines' thermodynamic void; few dare connect it further with the Thoan monad or the world-tree cluster.
