Summary
After he was captured by the Wens and Jiang Cheng's own golden core was destroyed, Wei Wuxian sacrificed his to replace it. That would be the end of it, right?
What Wei Wuxian doesn't know is Jiang Cheng is having trouble controlling his cultivation, his core doesn't act like his did, and it feels strange, alien inside him. He suffers a loss of control during a battle on the Jianglian front, witnessed by Lan Xichen. Despite the well-meaning Lan Sect Leader's intentions, however, Jiang Cheng is determined to keep his issues a secret.

Summary
Jiang Cheng has known for a long time the golden core churning away behind his lower dantian would eventually kill him, it never stopped spiralling out of control, and now it only happens with increasing frequency. Eventually it will cause the equivalent of a qi deviation he can't come back from. And he's reconciled to that fact; he's had time to come to terms with it.
Except, he can't look his former shixiong in the face, knowing the sacrifice he made was the equivalent of a death sentence. Avoiding him one evening, he stumbles into the Hanshi, who's master is in seclusion following the events of the Guanyin Temple.
Over the course of several evenings the two men strike up an unusual friendship, conducted through the open window of the Hanshi, until the night Jiang Wanyin doesn't show up...
Featuring a race against time, a slow realisation of feelings, a possible reconciliation, a ghost, and so much introspection.

Summary
Jiang Cheng prepares to attend his first Yunmeng Jiang night hunt since the removal of Wei Wuxian's golden core, and it's fair to say he's both nervous and excited to prove to himself he's becoming strong enough to protect those he loves once again, in a lowkey event, surrounded by his closest disciples.
The people he cares for don't let it stay that way, however.
