Summary
Booker frowns when his phone vibrates once just a few hours after everyone left him on the riverbank. He’s still there, sitting and staring out at the water but not really seeing anything.
100 years. It’s…
It’s something he doesn’t want to think about, not now, not when his throat burns and tightens whenever he starts to think about it, not when he feels the tears in his eyes threatening to spill over.
A text is a welcome distraction. He’s just not sure who sent it. Everyone he knows is angry at him.

Summary
Copley makes his way into the plane behind Keane, greeted by an incredibly sarcastic “ah, there he is! The man of the hour!” from Joe.
“My heart,” Nicky says, pulling Joe’s attention back to him, “what do you want to watch? There are so many channels on this TV, I don’t know why anyone would need so many.” The man is frowning at the television like it’s also betrayed and captured him and is about to deliver him to scientific experimentation, and Copley finds himself mildly impressed by how nonchalant they’re acting about this whole thing.
“Oh, is the football still on?” Joe asks. “It was early in the first half when we were so rudely interrupted, I think there should be some time left in the second half.”
“Let me see,” Nicky responds, flipping rapidly through the stations.

Summary
“I think this is my favorite thing,” Nicky says as he delicately cards his fingers through Joe’s damp curls. It’s hot and humid outside, a perfect day to stay in bed, and the weather is slowly creeping into their room as the sun shifts to stream through the slatted shutters.

Summary
“You know why,” Nicolò says shakily.
Yusuf shakes his head and creeps ever closer. “No, I do not. I only know you said you loved me as I love you but that we could never be together. That isn’t a reason, Nicolò, only a flimsy excuse.”

Summary
“I’ve had a beard since I could grow one. It feels strange without it now,” Yusuf gripes, rubbing his hand slowly across his face. He flaps his hand as he moves it away. “Well, it’s gone now, at any rate. What do you think?”
Nicolò looks over at him, the fading light painting Yusuf in beautiful dull oranges, and freezes. Yusuf is looking at him expectantly, eyebrow slightly raised, a small smile curling at his lips.
A small smile that’s making his dimples stand out. Because apparently Yusuf has *dimples.*

Summary
“Ugh,” Yusuf bemoans as he closes the door behind him. “It truly is abhorrent weather today. It couldn’t be hotter even if — oh,” he interrupts himself, finally noticing Nicolò. “Did I wake you?” he asks, smirking, knowing very well that he did.
Nicolò blinks as he sets the knife down next to his book and looks around the room. The shadows on the wall aren’t in the proper position for Yusuf’s arrival home, and he frowns.
“Ah,” Yusuf says, watching Nicolò and knowing exactly what he’s thinking. “It was too hot and no one was getting any work done, so Ibrahim sent us all home early. What shall we do? We could go for a swim, if you want.”

Summary
Nicky meets Joe at University, some otherwise forgettable party, and they become fast friends. Nicky is fully in love with Joe by the end of the semester, but it’s okay. It doesn’t hurt, knowing Joe doesn’t feel the same, because Nicky knows, with a surety he’s never known anything before, that Joe *will.*
It just might take Joe some time to get there.
