Summary
“But, sir, I’m not even a bachelor, and my wife—” Jim Gordon tried to be reasonable.
Mayor Garcia wasn’t having any of it. “Look, Jim. I’m very sorry about you and your wife. Really, I am. But you need to understand. The people, your people, need to see their new commissioner out there, front and center. Good for morale. You need to represent the GCPD. It’s your job.”

Summary
Bruce Wayne watched, utterly transfixed by the man sitting across the table from him.
The Jim Gordon Show.
He watched as Gordon held the delicate fork in his pale fingers… mmm, look at those elegant hands… long and strong… much like Wayne imagined the rest of him would be. Wayne couldn’t tear his eyes away as Gordon lifted the fork of tiramisu and liquor-infused Lady Fingers to his mouth. The older man’s mouth closed over the fork, and Wayne felt himself instantly harden in response. He shook his head clear and crossed his legs. He cleared his throat and picked up the glass of water in front of him to disguise his drooling mouth.

Summary
Commissioner Jim Gordon’s Monday morning began with finding Detective Renee Montoya loitering innocently outside his office door. He groaned inwardly. Innocent? Montoya? Yeah, right. He silently cursed his misfortune. He knew exactly why she was there—to get the inside scoop about last Friday night. And straight from the horse’s mouth at that. Gordon had nothing to hide, but he was a fervent believer that a man had every right to his own privacy.
And also, he wasn’t stupid.

For their next lunch appointment that Wednesday, Wayne decided on a quiet American bistro. He chose this tranquil location with its veranda and panoramic view of the city skyline for reasons of privacy. High and far above from the prying eyes of the paparazzi and the rest of the world, billionaire Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Jim Gordon could sit down and enjoy lunch al fresco without fear of outside interruption.

Summary
Jim Gordon pulled into his driveway. He shut off the engine and climbed out of his car. He felt a slight chill in the air and drew his coat tighter around him. It was only six o’clock, but he could see the sun setting in the far distance. The autumn season had finally come, his favorite time of the year. He smiled for a moment and walked toward his home.

“Goddammit, Bruce. Shove. It. In.”
“But, Jim, look at the size of this thing!”
“It will fit. Just… go slow. Ease it in. Really, I don’t care how—”

Summary
On Sunday morning, Bruce Wayne barged into Jim Gordon’s apartment, dragged him out of bed, ransacked his closet, threw a t-shirt and pair of sweatpants at him, and pushed him into the elevator. Bruce was already dressed for the morning’s activity, decked out in gym shorts and a matching sweatshirt. He pressed the button for the first floor, and the elevator began moving downward. They arrived at their destination almost immediately, and Bruce pulled Gordon down the hallway toward the fitness center.

Summary
Jim Gordon drove home in a daze. “He’ll wait for you.” What the hell did that mean? Frankly, he was deeply embarrassed to have given Batman so much personal information. TMI! Montoya would have chided. No wonder the Batman took off so suddenly. Gordon mentally kicked himself. Again. And again. Damn.

Summary
Commissioner James Gordon walked hurriedly into the GCPD precinct with a cup of coffee in one hand, a stack of manila folders in the other, and a prominent frown on his face. Normally, nonproductive meetings with various local officials and the stifling air of bureaucracy at City Hall wouldn’t have put him in such a black mood, but the ignoramuses he’d had to patronize this morning combined with his personal issues did nothing for his current disposition.

Summary
Jim Gordon stood in front of his office door. He swallowed hard, visibly gathering resolve. Time to man up. He reached for the doorknob, walked in, and closed the door behind him.
Bruce Wayne sat in one of the chairs in front of his desk, waiting expectantly.
Gordon began, “Bruce, we need to talk.”
The other man looked at him pointedly. You think?
Gordon sighed. He deserved that one. He walked to his desk and sat down. They sat in silence for a moment before Gordon opened his mouth again, “About that morning…”

Summary
Jim Gordon stood in front of his bathroom mirror, wearing nothing more than a damp towel tied around his waist and paying very close attention to his reflection as he carefully shaved. The bathroom was filled with fog from his hot shower, and the mirror began to steam up once more. He reached up a hand to quickly wipe it clear. He ran the blade under the sink, eyeing himself critically. His mustache had almost completely grown back, but it wasn’t yet as thick as it was before. He was looking more and more like his old self, and he knew Bruce liked that very, very much.

Summary
“Bruce, you don’t understand.” Jim Gordon rubbed his face in frustration. Sometimes it felt like he was talking to a brick wall. Actually, he felt like screaming. Bruce Wayne could be very obtuse when he wanted to, and Gordon couldn’t always tell when he was playing games or not. Gordon was getting better at reading him, slowly chipping away at the billionaire playboy façade to uncover the man underneath, but Bruce always seemed to be one step ahead. Or two. Or three.

Summary
The next time they saw one another was ten days later at yet another fundraiser, a society function Police Commissioner Jim Gordon was required to attend. This time, Gordon had chosen not to book any arguments with Mayor Garcia regarding his mandatory attendance at the benefit for a local children’s hospital, much to the latter’s shock and surprise. Gordon had merely shrugged, fully resigned to fulfill his obligations to the department and to the city.

Summary
Bruce Wayne was no stranger to nightmares or injuries. His regular nighttime activities as well as a traumatic childhood event had given him plenty of experience on both accounts. But he had learned to handle it well, to rise above it. As a boy, he’d had his mother and father there for comfort, and later, Alfred, to guide him through some dark nights. As a grown man, he’d learned at the feet of Ra’s al Ghul how to conquer his fears and use them to his advantage.

Summary
It was nearly ten o’clock in the morning when Jim Gordon finally woke. As he lay in bed with his eyes closed, he thought he could hear the distant, familiar sounds of someone working in the kitchen below. For a brief moment, in his disoriented state, he believed he was back home and it was Barbara downstairs preparing breakfast for him and the two kids. But that couldn’t be. The apartment was too still. It was too quiet. Gordon felt an immediate, sharp pang of regret in his heart. He desperately missed his children. What he wouldn’t give to have them with him right now…
