Summary
Everything in Arthur screamed for him to present for his Alpha. But even though he didn’t have coughing fits anymore - at least, triggered by nothing, he could eat and drink without coughing and gasping - they could still be triggered by pressure to his chest, as he’d discovered when Charles had gone to lean over him one night to grab a glass of water when he lost his balance, and the man had nearly had to run for the doctor because Arthur hadn’t been able to catch his breath between the coughs.
So they’d settled for having him leaning over the side of the bed, crossed arms keeping space between anything that could press against his chest, and his legs keeping him up. Charles stood between them, hands holding Arthur’s forearms, breathing the scent of Arthur and Omega and Heat and need and he knew he was annoying Arthur but he worried, he could never get the image of Arthur out on that ledge out of his head, could never forget the nights he spent thinking they’d be the man’s last, could never forget the doctor saying ‘he won’t see another week’ and then ‘another month’ even still the doctor said ‘another decade’ but the doctor also said that by then who knew what treatments there would be for consumption?
