The weather in London had been brewing into a grey and gloomy mass of clouds threatening to unleash a torrential downpour on its cynical citizens, each who had fleeting fancies that the stormy weather was waiting on them, biding time until they were far enough from shelter there was no hope escaping it until drenched, cold, and undeniably miserable. They were worrying in vain, however. This particular rain was waiting for one Quartermaster, clocking off after 18 hours, wanting nothing more than to reach the comfort of his own home, change, put on some dinner and likely fall asleep to a movie he’s already seen 50 times.

This was not how James expected his day to go. He had not expected to end up locked inside a supply cupboard, fielding a call from Eve Moneypenny asking the whereabouts of Q, having to deny seeing the boffin recently even as the man in question is curled up against his side. He hadn’t expected to be stuck at an utter loss as to how to explain this if anyone eventually tracked them down.

There were worse places to be stuck staking out a possible bomb maker than Corfu. Playing a tourist in Hawaiian shirts, sipping martinis and swimming in the ocean, catching the eye of beautiful women while discreetly tailing Lukas Östergaard, owner of the luxury yacht, “The Claw”, and a supplier of explosives to various cartels, it took James Bond a week to finally find a way in. Östergaard had a daughter, Elin, and apparently she was none too happy with her fathers restrictive attitude when it came to wanting to enjoy the beautiful island she was shored up against.

He had been having probably the closest he’d come to fun in weeks watching the laser cut small, intricate shapes out of sheet metal. It felt like a years’ worth of mess had happened in the last month, yet there was a cathartic satisfaction watching the machine’s meticulous work. Almost peaceful. And he supposed he’d doomed himself with that thought.
