Summary
He holds the hands of mourners between his own and tells them, gently, warmly, that death is not an end to be feared, but simply what must be. There goest life. There thou goest also. These moments are, frequently, the only time these people gathering in his walls, under his protection, will allow him to touch them.
He doesn't mind. He understands that people look on him and see something horrifying in the great dark growths of his face, the strange texture of his hands, and the hidden nature of his eyes.

Summary
At least these ruins, crawling with animancers as they may be, bring him one welcome surprise. Caron barely schools his face when he sees Aloth standing in the cage, and the only reason he manages it is Aloth's expression—trapped somewhere between surprise, delight, and fear, if Caron has not forgotten Aloth's moods.

Summary
"She is the most beautiful woman I've seen. Thin and tall, pale, with dark hair. Her eyes are so black they seem to draw in the light itself. I think I could be pulled into them and never escape."
It's melodramatic, but Caron says it so sincerely that Aloth can't hold it against him.

Summary
He would go to the Temple of Rikuhu and pray, but Berath has never met him at their altar. Instead, he goes to sea.
It is several days sailing before the vision claims him, as he lies on his bed watching the whorls and knots in the wood of the ceiling. He has done little else since leaving Neketaka. Aloth has tried in his quiet way to pull Caron out of the darkness he has descended into, and Edér and Xoti have tried in their less quiet ways, but Caron refuses to be budged by anything but the gods.
And the gods bicker like kith.
