Summary
Michael and Brett had a very odd and unconventional relationship. Michael and his former wife (who was also Brett’s mother), Tabitha, divorced only a few years ago. Michael was hung up over it, but Brett always loved his father much more than he loved his mother, to an almost unhealthy degree. Ever since he was young, he always admired his father, and always loved how much his father would dote on him. He wanted to do anything he could to make his dear father happy, even if that meant replacing his mom. So, on Brett’s eighteenth birthday, when Michael bought him a cake like he always did on his birthday, Brett made his special wish as he blew out his candles…

Summary
Michael couldn’t help but feel jealous about how much his younger brother, Damien, got along with his son, Brett. Damien was the ‘fun’ uncle who would take Brett out to car shows or to the movie theatre or baseball games. Brett would always come home beaming and talking about how ‘cool and awesome’ his Uncle Damien is, and Michael couldn’t help but feel as if Brett would rather be with someone like Damien instead of him.
Michael just hoped that Damien wouldn’t take the thing most precious to him—his very own son, his love, his baby boy.
