"Something was amiss, something that they had no power against. The spirits and gods of the Gauls were vastly different from the Romans' and the less they dealt with them, the better. Hadn't the centurion told them that one of the Gauls' feriae was coming up? The one about the dead? He shuddered. The autumn dusk was closing in on them, and somewhere in the distance he heard the distinct call of a raven. Roman larvae and lemures were frightening enough as it were. He really didn't want to learn what Gaulish spirits of the underworld were like."
Samhain is drawing closer, and Decimus and Quintus find themselves accused of having murdered and violated a Gaulish girl.
While Panoramix investigates the murder, they learn that the Gaulish village isn't the worst place to be kept prisoner when the real culprit isn't of human origin.Series
