Summary
years later, he’s settled and working his shift at the quiet little bar he considers his home away from home. she’s bruised and stumbling into his bar in a black dress, fury radiating from her like fire, and luke’s captivated in every way he knows he shouldn’t be.
she’s driving her knuckles into the floor and screaming so loudly it has to hurt, and all luke can do is watch and remember and desperately try to avoid feeling it, too.
he hasn’t thought about his mom in years. hasn’t thought about using or drinking or fucking around.
she turns to meet his eyes just before she steps out of the bar again and luke’s breath catches. he can see the ache there, the ghosts haunting her and dragging her six feet under before she even stops breathing, and christ, luke remembers that weight.
