Summary
Ranpo knew how to ride trains by himself. He just didn't want to.
He'd gone on one once and only once. Yosano said to those who asked that that day he went to her school to pick her up as he texted, but an agitated face greeted her instead of a proud one that she expected. He said it was too troublesome and he'll never do it again. She assumed he was just bothered by the fear of getting lost and reprimanded by the President (one which many agree with).
But only Ranpo knew the shameful truth.
