Michael smiles back into the kiss and you swear your soul could fly. A bubbly feeling rises in the pit of your chest when he tucks your hair behind your ear, and sparks erupt every place your skin makes contact. You want nothing more in this universe than to make him even half as happy as he’s made you, change his life even a fraction as much as he’s changed yours. The bursting joy, the love in your heart threatens to rip you apart from the inside out. You need to get it out or you fear you may die. Maybe not literally, but the feeling of keeping it to yourself is far too painful to just endure. “Hey.” You part, unbearably, just for a moment to get his attention. “Hey, I need to tell you something important.”
A dazed grin dances across his features; he looks as if he’s just been awoken from a pleasant dream. “What is it?”

You're not… responsible for me.” At your words, his hands twitch at your waist. You notice yourself being pulled closer to him, the warmth of his body pressed to every part of yours. Goosebumps erupt all over your body when you feel his hands slowly stroking up and down the exposed skin on your spine. You speak carefully, sensing his oncoming mental spiral that likely has very little to do with his encounter with a boy literally half his size and everything to do with whatever residual childhood trauma is still haunting his brain. “I’m not in any danger, Michael. I wasn’t just now and I never will be. Everything’s okay.”
