Summary
Little Wei Ying is a homeless child roaming the streets of Yunmeng trying his best to stay unnoticed by the powers that be when he's discovered by Lan Zhan - and by extension Lan Qiren, who whisks the boy away to Cloud Recesses.
But there are some things that Wei Ying will simply never be able to unlearn to fit into Cloud Recesses - and nor should he have to. Lan Qiren is fighting his own invisible battle with the traditions that have ruined his family. Wei Ying - and his love for the boy - may be the key that they all need to stop the cycles of cold misery that seem to plague the main Lan bloodline. They all just have to brave enough to seize the opportunities presented to them.

Canon-divergence where LQR adopts scruffy lil street kid WY, and mute/neurodivergent lil LZ is super on board with that. LQR is dismissed by and fighting with the Lan Elders, but fortunately sect leader Nie is helpful.
