“Hey, wait! Carlos!” He slowed, looking over his shoulder to see Judd making his way over to him. The big strides the man took had him crossing the hospital waiting room in seconds, where he was now towering over Carlos by a few inches. Judd had an indecipherable look on his face, one that made Carlos’ heart race anxiously, although that could still be a side effect of the past few days.
“Where you heading off to, cowboy,” Judd asked with an apprehensive smile gracing his lips. “I mean, I feel like now definitely ain’t the time to head out. TK just woke up and you’ve got a baby Ryder to meet.” Carlos shrugged, finding the words and thoughts fizzling off his tongue. Judd’s posture shifted, and his previously relaxed shoulders tensed. His confused stare sized Carlos up, and Judd was looking at the officer like he had never met the man before. “You’re really leaving right now?”
