Summary
On his throne of gold and diamonds, the Heavenly Emperor sits before him, and Mu Qing glares.
“I did not ask you to undertake that mission, General Xuan Zhen,” His Imperial Majesty states, the scowl evident in his tone. “There are consequences to disobeying my orders.”
“Sending His Highness to the Onyx Forest was a foolish mistake,” Mu Qing can’t hide the sneer in his own voice; the Heavenly Emperor abruptly stands up.
“Mu Qing,” he hisses. “Will you stop being difficult for once?”
“I will once you dismiss me.”
Of course, nothing ever goes according to Mu Qing’s wishes. Instead, letting out an exasperated breath, Feng Xin takes a few steps from the throne towards him.

Mu Qing has just sheathed his newly cleaned saber when he hears a soft knock on the doors to his private chambers. The doors open to reveal Pei Ming’s head disciple.
“General, before you go on your mission, I wanted to warn you about the curse…” the deputy god says.
“I’m not going to kill Feng Xin.” Mu Qing cuts him off.
After all, if he hasn’t already destroyed that idiot in the last nine centuries, he’s not going to do it when they’ve already been married for a decade. He’ll just finish the assignment and then he will exact his revenge so that Pei Ming will never task him such a mission again.
“That’s not it...” The deputy god somehow manages to look more anxious. “It’s true that the curse arises uncontrollable bloodlust in those who enter the underground maze. B- but, when Gao Wei and I resisted that urge, it became something entirely different… like the oppos – ”
This was not how Mu Qing wanted to celebrate their anniversary.
