"Gege!" Hua Cheng says, startled. A huge grin spreads across his face. "What was that for?"
"I wanted to," Xie Lian says, grinning back. He kisses Hua Cheng again, on the nose this time. "You're cute."
"I'm -" Hua Cheng sputters. "I'm cute?”
"The cutest," Xie Lian proclaims, cupping Hua Cheng's face in both hands and smacking a third kiss on his forehead. "My adorable husband."

Xie Lian realizes he’s clutching at his chest. “I’m okay, San Lang,” he replies automatically, doing his best to smile.
Hua Cheng’s hands cover his, gently pulling his fingers away from where he’s scrabbling at his skin. “No, you’re not,” he says softly. “And you don’t have to be. I’m here for all of you.”
Xie Lian just looks at him for a little while. His husband, always there for him. Solid and trustworthy, never wavering. There’s at least one person who would never turn on him.
Just one person is enough.
Xie Lian lets out a strangled sob, and Hua Cheng pulls him close as tears fall down his cheeks.

Xie Lian’s ear fins flutter in his sleep. A small chirp escapes him, and he hugs Hua Cheng closer.
“Gege,” Hua Cheng whispers, in awe at how adorable his husband is.
Xie Lian’s tail wraps more securely around his. “S’n L’ng,” he mumbles.
Hua Cheng kisses the top of his head.

Xie Lian hums happily in response and lets his eyes fall closed.
Hua Cheng’s arms are so solid around him, and his chest is so nice, and the hand on his hair feels wonderful…
Sleep pulls its warm blanket over his shoulders, and he lets himself drift off into dreamland, knowing he’s safe.
