Soulmate AU - Heartbeats

People are born with one physical heart to keep their whole body functioning, and a phantom heartbeat; two sets of heartbeats. One coming from the beating of the person’s heart, and one coming from the person’s partner. The second set of heartbeats functions the same as a person’s heart - It beats in sync with the partner’s heartbeat.

The conditions are simple, if the person wants to hear their partner’s heartbeat when they didn’t meet them yet:
The person has to be at a certain distance closer to each other. There, you can feel the feint sound of a second set of heartbeats. The closer you get to each other, the louder the second heartbeat will be.
Once the person and their partner meet eye-to-eye, they will instantly feel the connection, and their second heartbeats will be felt for the rest of their lives.
Else, even if the person and their partner meets eye-to-eye, if they do not acknowledge the fact that the person is their partner, they would not feel each other’s heartbeats outside the seven-meter radius.

If a person’s partner dies, they will not feel their person’s heartbeat any longer.
