In October of 2001, Huey and Monica stumble across a modern version of the cult that once tortured and worshiped Elmer. Separately, Elmer stumbles across a branch of the cult on his own--and rather than the vengeance Huey and Monica seek, he only devotes himself to making their sacrificial god smile. This puts him at cross-purposes to his friends' rage. But as long as he can make that little girl happy, that's all that matters.
