Summary
In the summer of 1899, Elijah takes a train to New York after getting kicked out of college. He finds himself thrown into the middle of a labor strike and a woefully under-negotiated polyamorous male trio. Somehow, he quickly becomes vital to both situations. He might even be the missing piece the trio has always needed. He's never been sure he believed in fate, but it quickly becomes hard for him not to think that he's exactly where he's meant to be.

"Don't mind things bein' tough, but this? Sometimes I think—I don't know, if I never came over here, at least I wouldn't be spending Christmas in jail," Kieran says. He sucks in a breath that sounds suspiciously like it might be a sniffle. Kieran shakes his head against Matteo's shoulder and adds, "but not 'cause I hate havin' Christmas with you."
Matteo laughs and squeezes Kieran's hand.
"Nah, I'd pick spending Christmas eating gingerbread in front of a bonfire and opening presents from a goat over being stuck in a jail cell with me, too," Matteo says. He smiles and feels genuinely pleased when that makes Kieran laugh a surprised-sounding laugh.
"Not a goat anymore," Kieran mutters, squeezing Matteo's hand back.
