He came into work this morning still not having heard one word from her and spent somewhere around three hours staring at the picture of them he kept on his desk.
He started to hate that picture.
He started to hate how happy they looked in it, in the sun on the beach with her smiling in his arms and him pressing a kiss to her temple. Genya had taken the picture, insisting on capturing the moment for proof that Aleksander could “emerge from his lair.”
Alina and Aleksander had been dating for over 2 years and it all falls apart in one fight where they both walk away blaming the other instead of taking the responsibility and deal with it in their own ways.

There’s no reason why she should be wanting to know the answer to that question. But the wondering and going back and forth in her head might just kill her unless she knows.
“No,” he says, sounding outraged by the idea.
“So what then?” she throws her arms out wide. “He’s just a warm mouth?”
Aleksander goes incredibly still for a moment.
“Isn’t that all I was to you?”
Aleksander and Alina see each other for the first time since they broke up a month ago. It goes about as well as anybody would expect it to.

She swallows hard, “Aleksander.”
He blinks away whatever stupor he worked himself into and manages to say, “How…how are you?”
As if nothing ever happened between them. The absolute nerve of him.
She glares and says, “All of a sudden you care?”
They both decide to do what they should be doing in terms of what is expected of them. The question is whether or not it’s really for the best.
