Steve realizes he’s fucked only after it’s too late.
He already slept like shit before the world went to shit. It only makes sense that his sleeping gets worse after that. He’s plagued by nightmares of grotesque flesh monsters, sticky pools of tainted ichor, and the sounds of his friends in danger.
But Steve’s used to that shit like he’s used to his morning routine. Wake up gasping for breath, take a shower, brush his teeth, and he can conquer the world.
What he’s not used to is Eddie-fucking-Munson and his stupid fucking face.

Eddie rustles around a little bit and then brings the sheets up over them. He’s going to have to change them tomorrow morning, but Steve can’t bring it in himself to give a shit right now. He’s got his cheek over Eddie’s heart, counting the rhythmic thuds beneath his ear like Eddie does before he starts playing a song.
This is Steve’s favorite place in the whole world.
The fingers in his hair still before moving to cup Steve’s jaw, turning his head up so he can see Eddie’s face. “Hm?” Steve hums, trying to blink away the sleep that’s crawling slowly into his eyes.
Eddie smiles that soft, fond smile that crinkles his eyes, the one he uses only for Steve. “I’ll tell you later, yeah?”
As scary as it seems, Steve feels more for Eddie than he has anything or anyone else.Series
