1) Steve is half French (his Mom) and has always wanted to be pretty but his misogynistic and abusive father caught him putting on his mother's makeup, he made Steve feel worthless.2) Eddie is actually a Latin boy (they're not super specific as to which country) whose mother died of cancer and his father committed suicide a while later. Eddie moves in with Wayne and his mother's twin sister (Wayne's wife). Auntie also dies of cancer later, but both she and Wayne always made sure that Eddie knew they loved and accepted him.
Eddie's in the hospital after everything and after a series of miscommunication, both Eddie and Steve think the other doesn't want them. Right up until they meet up in a queer bar and Eddie proves to Steve just how much he wants his Pretty Boy.
