Summary
When seventeen-year-old Dean screws up on a hunt, he pays for it with a broken arm and his father nearly pays with his life. As soon as the next case pops up Dean and Sam get dumped at Bobby’s house, supposedly so that Dean can heal, but Dean knows it’s just to keep him out of John’s way.
The only problem is that now a kid has just been violently killed in Sioux Falls and it’s got ‘their kind of thing’ written all over it. It wouldn’t hurt for Dean to just look into it a little, would it? Maybe prove to his dad that he’s not so useless after all. Especially since Dean already has a lead in the form of a guy at school whose family might be even more fucked up than the Winchesters.
This is how Dean’s first attempt at a solo hunt went horribly wrong (and it just might be his queer origin story, too).

At first it’s just another case. Just one more thing to hunt down and kill so Dean can get back to that bender he started when Cas left. But the deeper he’s drawn into this investigation, the more personal it becomes.
