A Mass Effect alternate universe which hinges on two key concepts.
That Shepard became a Spectre several years prior to the Eden Prime incident, and that she is intrinsically linked to synthetics, both by choice and by happenstance.
S&S will hopefully always manage to keep the feeling of the games themselves, while never retreading the same ground. This is not a novelization with a twist, if Shepard embarks on a side quest it is because she has a reason to do so. Character are not restrained by the binary morality system, which means that our heroes will indeed do things that are not all too heroic, but that is the price they will pay to keep the galaxy spinning.
The story rotates around Shepard, with occasional jumps to other actors, from Saren to The Illusive Man, as well as several OC's who exist to flesh out the universe, though they will only be on the fringes of the story proper.
