Summary
When she gets to the end of the stairs, Shuri can see a faint orange glow coming from the living room that could only be coming from the fireplace. Immediately, she’s on alert. She isn’t the one who turned it on, and she knows her brother and Nakia haven’t arrived yet. There’s someone else in the cabin with her. Either that, or it’s haunted but Shuri doesn’t believe in ghosts.
As quietly as possible, she removes the blanket that’s wrapped tightly around her and drops it on the stairs behind her. She needs freedom of movement if she’s going to confront the intruder. Tiptoeing quietly, she grabs the fire poker that’s leaning against the wall and grips it tightly. She begins slowly, quietly, inching into the living room where she sees a figure hunched over in front of the fireplace.
“I’m giving you five seconds to leave this place before I beat you to death with this poker!” she yells, startling the intruder who turns around with wide eyes.
