Summary
"“Yeah,” Ellie says, looking up at the stars, too. She looks up there at the stars in the sky like they could teleport her to them and get her out of this hellish apocalypse, and maybe, just maybe, Joel wishes they could.
Later, he hands her a Savage Starlight comic, and it isn’t the first time. She says, “Nice, dude! I don’t have this one, sweet,” and she smiles so bright, and Joel can’t help the slight smile he gives back, even as his brain is telling him to pull away, stay away, all this will give you is fear and pain and loss and grief, but his heart tells him no. Tells him that he cares about Ellie and all the fear and all the pain is worth it."One shot. Joel doesn't know when exactly Ellie began to feel more like a daughter and less like cargo, but he knows that she does feel like a daughter now, and it terrifies him. It terrifies him, but he wouldn't have it any other way. Featuring Savage Starlight, stargazing, books and pamphlets about astronauts, and Joel's contemplations.

Summary
"“You’re not just cargo anymore, Ellie. You know that, right?”
“Yeah,” she says, and his gaze is soft—she’s not sure she would call it uncharacteristically soft, really. Sometimes he’s a big softy, and she knows it, even if he doesn’t want to admit it. He’s a protector and a kindhearted dude, and even if he doesn’t think he can be both at the same time, she knows it.
“Yeah, I know,” she says, nodding at him, and he looks like he needs her to know it. Like he needs her to know that she is not just cargo anymore, but he can’t or won’t actually say, I think of you sort of like a daughter, kid, just thought you should know."Quadruple drabble. A short little conversation between Joel and Ellie--plus contemplations from Ellie--about how Ellie isn't just cargo anymore, and how Joel isn't just the old man hauling her around.
