“You /would/ want him to know that,” Matthew corrected, “If there was anything. As far as you’re concerned, right now, there isn’t. Don’t press any harder than you have, and keep this to yourself.” Zhang Hao nodded once, acquiescing. Seemingly satisfied, Matthew got up. He fixed another cup, presumably to bring to Hanbin, and went to leave the kitchen. He was at the threshold when he stopped.
“But I’ll tell him.” He turned back just slightly, just enough to look Zhang Hao in the eye. “I’m sure he’d appreciate knowing he has another person who cares about him like that.”
Another second of white-hot eye contact, and Matthew was gone, leaving Zhang Hao deaf but for the sound of his own heartbeat in his ears.
