Summary
The Angels appeared when Sam was just a kid. Which was useful, because a lot of bad guys showed up around the same time - Demons, monsters, and people inspired to grander heights of planning mass murders.
Sam became a reporter, and was out on a story when Demons attacked the building he was in. The Angels swooped in and rescued everyone trapped in the building. Sam was rescued by Castiel, a somewhat reclusive Angel no one knew much about. At his boss's insistence, Sam reached out and asked for an interview. To his extreme surprise, Castiel said yes.

Summary
Jack was a highly unusual Angel, and they're figuring out the best they can do for him.
Sequel-esque to The Reporter and the Angel. Brief notes if you haven't read that one: Angels are a superhero group protecting the world. An Angel has two identities: their Angel form and their human form. While the two obviously share a body, their personalities and attachments can be wildly different.
Gadreel is Sam's Angel form.
Castiel is Jimmy's Angel form. Castiel and Sam are in a relationship, but Gadreel and Jimmy do not have those feelings.
Rachel is Claire's Angel form. Claire was Jimmy's daughter from before he became an Angel that he didn't know about.
For safekeeping and to establish a human identity, Jack has been adopted by Sam Winchester, because Sam comes and goes from the Angels all the time in his capacity as official staff reporter for the Angels.Series
