Summary
She didn't particularly enjoy five years of being irresponsible after she retreated back to Switzerland, though it was certainly a welcomed break. Even though the beginning wasn’t much of a break with the Holy War at large. But now, with the world slowly healing, and with the confirmation that Ava was never coming back (she'd gotten it a long time ago, just never allowed herself to believe it), she knew she'd have to get her shit together because she shouldn’t—couldn’t go on like this.
She knew she couldn't. Not unless she wanted a repeat of that one night she tried so desperately to block out. But it wasn’t that easy. Nothing ever was.
Or: Five years after Ava goes through the portal, Beatrice’s life is in shambles and she constantly seeks out comfort in alcohol.
Or or: Beatrice misses Ava a fuck ton and starts to lose faith in her return (and her religion, but that's BEEN happening)

Summary
“Are you real?” She croaked after long, long minutes. Her voice was rough and scratchy; foreign to her ears as she spoke. “Please, be real.”
A startled laugh sounded around the room. Beatrice didn’t think it was coming from her at first, because there was nothing to be laughed about, but after a moment, she felt it in her chest. The movement as she exhaled loud chortles. A dead sound, humourless, unforgiving. “If you aren’t real, I—I,"
Tears spilled over once again, and it annoyed her to no end. She couldn’t help the anger she felt as she cried, and it only fueled the flame within her, the hurt.
“I am.” She heard suddenly, and she jerked. Ava had spoken, loud and clear, not watery and distant. Clear, in her ear, present. There, real. She squeezed, and was squeezed in return. Real, real, real. “I’m real,” she confirmed.
Or: Ava and Beatrice reunite
Or or: Epilogue.
