Before he gets there, though, the door clicks. Sand starts to turn and is caught, Ray hooking both arms around his waist and his chin over Sand's shoulder. “Morning,” he mumbles. His voice sounds wrecked. “Let me shower with you.”

Sand had laughed about it, forgiving as he always was, so Ray had laughed too. But now, bereft of Sand’s touch for the first time in hours and staring at the fading, yellow-brown evidence of how easy it had been to push Sand away, he doesn’t feel like laughing.
Ray tends to Sand's old wounds.
