Summary
Asami took Korra’s hands and squeezed them. “What does a betrothal necklace mean to you?”
Korra couldn’t have expected her day to go down this route in a million years. “Traditionally? Oh, um, someone offers you a betrothal necklace and if you accept then it’s a form of engagement?”
“I didn’t ask that, I ask what it meant to you.”

Summary
“That’s an engagement necklace, is it not?”
Cheers erupted from the crowd.
Shit.
Oh fuck.
She didn’t get a chance to say a word. Someone was shoving her to center stage and waving on more ruckus from the crowd. The sounds all blended into static and she didn’t have the nerve to find Asami in the swarm of people. This was not how she wanted this to go. If she’d just left the damned thing at home this could have been avoided. Or at the very least, she could have shown Asami privately before any of it went public.
She managed to escape eventually. She took to hiding at the bottom of the stairs and almost doubled over when someone grabbed her by the arm and began dragging her away. It seemed Asami had found her before she’d even had the chance to catch her breath. “Look, I can explain—” And then she was being shoved against a wall. Spirits. “I was going to show you at the end of the night—” She was cut off by a kiss, a very aggressive kiss. Every thought in her brain melted into nothingness.

Summary
At one point, when Bolin was giving his speech, Asami ran a nail down the length of her forearm and pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek. She’d thought nothing of it at first, really, then Asami’s finger started to draw slow circles over her wrist. It wasn’t sexual in itself but the implication that Asami wanted to touch her in a crowded room sent her into a downward spiral.
Was she reading into this?
She’d touch Korra’s arm and squeeze it as they spoke with the cast and extras, she’d let her hand drop down the length of Korra’s back before retreating, heck, she even tucked Korra’s hair behind her ear and traced the outline of her jaw right in front of Mako and Bolin. It was driving her mad.

Summary
“Spit it out.”
“Do you know what sensory deprivation is?”
“Oh.” Asami straightened in her chair. “I know of it.”
“You know how I lost complete sensation in my legs?”
“How could I forget?”
“The thought of that happening again has always terrified me.” She withdrew further and started to shift her weight from foot to foot. “In the dream…” She couldn’t get the words out. “I can’t see. I’m completely blind. But I can feel everything.” She started to pace in a small circumference. “I can’t hear, either.” She almost walked into a wall. “But I can feel so much. A breath on my ankle, a brief touch to the thigh, a kiss to the base of my spine. It’s… healing, I suppose. I felt safe. I felt what I couldn’t when I was poisoned.”

Summary
Korra had to remind herself she wasn’t a child anymore as she stepped off the loading bay and onto the wooden dock. Running at full speed with a baby attached to her chest and a day pack on her back wasn’t entirely appropriate, no matter how excited she was when she saw her parents waiting with matching grins. She tucked the hood of the snow suit further over Kyoshi’s head and clutched Hiroshi’s hand as she made her way over, matching his pace. He paused when he finally noticed both Tonraq and Senna and let out an ecstatic wail, snatching his hand out of Korra’s reach as he broke into a full sprint. Naga was close behind, huffing out warning barks as she nudged him away from the water side of the dock.

Summary
Hiroshi yawned again and let his head rest against Korra’s stomach. “Thanks, momma.”
Oh.
Oh.
Korra’s throat tightened up.
He’d only ever called them by their names, never by title. She was so momentarily stunned that she missed Hiroshi turning around to curl his arms around her neck. She cleared her throat and wrapped her arms around his tiny frame. “You’re welcome, buddy,” She whispered, not trusting her voice. “I’ll always be here to protect you, you know that, right?”
