Summary
The world of superheroes as DC knows it formed, with one key difference: the Justice League never formed.
Over the years they worked together, of course, but with none of the friendship or trust forged with a proper organization. That wasn't so much the case for some of the younger heroes.
(AKA Teen Titans & other orgs still formed amongst the youngest gen, and being the largest group the Batfam has connections to just about everyone through their proteges and general stalking behaviors, much to the newly-formed Justice League's shock.)

Summary
Gotham was old.
Literally, of course, anyone could tell that by looking at the crumbling architecture of most of the city. The bright neons and smooth lines and sleek glass still existed within the old stone—like shiny new garden ornaments engulfed by the wildness of a place long overgrown, knowing sooner rather than later they’d be consumed into the whole by the general rot and mold surrounding them.
More than that, Gotham was old, in a way unlike most everything else. It had an air about it that sometimes felt ageless, ancient. And like attracted like.
