Summary
"He'd yell and stomp and mimic the noises of everybody around him, rock on his heels and sway in place, would thump his chest and slam his hands on hard surfaces (not for the sting, but the noise). And he'd feel better for it. Be satiated enough to complete his day, as rough or unadulterated as it was.
But there was one way in which he liked to seal off his nights, though he hasn't been able to accomplish it in a long while. Not since he was a little kid, when Uncle Wayne was less achy limbs and more physical. Eddie liked the comfort of something weighing down on him, not metaphorically, quite literally."

Summary
"But then he wakes up. He wakes up, eyes bleary, choking on a tube, shaved head, and patchwork scars crafted from skin grafts and dark sutured stitches. He’s a hideous, pink and purple and painful mess. And he’s alive. God, he’s alive.
There’s people. Lots of visitors. Handfuls of cards. Thousands of rose petals. The most important attribute to his waking existence, though, is Steve Harrington at his bedside."

Summary
"'What about you, Stevie? Got any songs from your childhood?'
So he shrugs. 'No,' he answers honestly.
'Really?' Eddie incredulously questions, 'Nothing at all?' He sits up on one of his elbows, eyes wide down at Steve. 'That feels hard to believe.'
'You wanted to know, so I’m telling you. It’s not a pretty story.'
'What isn’t a pretty story? The birth of some song that reminds you of being a little kid?'
'I don’t—There isn’t anything that takes me back to being a little kid. I hated being a little kid. The story’s ugly anyway.'
'Tell me,' Eddie quietly pleads. 'Tell me even if it’s shitty, I wanna know.'"

Summary
"The plan is that Steve is going to get home, change out of his Family Video get up (because, yes, the video store has followed him to Illinois), get into his sweats and a Denver Bronco’s t-shirt, rush to get his sneakers back on, and hurry over to the local sports bar to yell over the Super Bowl.
—
It’s his favorite thing to talk about. Well, it could be any sport. He knows quite a bit about literally any sport.'Who had the most strikeouts in 1984?' Eddie had asked one evening.
Without any preamble, Steve had shot him with, 'Dwight Gooden, New York Mets.'
So, yeah, Steve knows his shit. At least in Eddie’s humble opinion."

Summary
"He peeks from the edge of the couch, eyes set and attentive at their front door. And Steve is there, wrestling with his puffer jacket, grumbling under his breath, kicking his legs and stepping on the backs of his sneakers—something he never does, he cares too much for those things. But here he is. One t-shirt stuck on a doorknob away from a breakdown.
Though, Eddie doesn’t chastise him for the way his emotions express. No matter how explosive they are. Steve just gets like this some days. Too angry to talk. Too begrudged to take care of his things."

Summary
"Steve and Eddie’s hang outs tend to land them on their asses at one another’s houses. But tonight, the sky is clear and the moon is out and everything seems to be painted by the soft glow of stars. Because Steve’s parents are home. And Wayne’s got the day off, so he’s asleep early in the living room at the Munson’s. Neither of that will stop them, though. Steve picks Eddie up thirty minutes before the sun has to set, a little Melvald’s bag in the backseat filled with food and a soft throw blanket.
They go out to a clearing a few minutes outside of Hawkins. Just off the side of the road. No other people. No other wildlife, really. And they sprawl out on that blanket, over the chilled late autumn grass, eating from the same bag of barbecue chips. Eddie sits back on his palms, looking up to the stars."

Summary
"But as he passed by the coffee table, bag still in hand, aiming for the front door and down his porch steps and over to the garbage bin at the end of the driveway—there was a little shiny, plastic thing sitting on the surface. He picked it up, recognizing it straight away as a cassette case. And pocketed it. He’ll take a look back upstairs.
And he nearly forgot about it until it clattered to his bedroom carpet, a soft thud."

Summary
"The first time it happens, Eddie doesn’t say anything. Sort of just reigns himself for a night on the sofa, stiff to the cushions, hands spread and tight by his sides. Steve fell asleep on top of him. His snores directed right over Eddie’s heart. And Eddie is hopeless, really, helpless, too. He didn’t say anything or do anything. Even though he had to pee. But, when he thought about it, Steve had been especially tired—beyond spacey the entire day they hung out. So it was for the best that he just ignored whatever was happening. Eddie let himself fall asleep, too.
However, it kept happening."

Summary
"A new Mexican restaurant opens up a block away from their apartment in 1992. Taqueria Las Palomas. They make it part of their date night circle. Tuesday dates are for the queer bar ten minutes sideways. Wednesdays they’d go to the park on a picnic. Thursdays are for non-competitive bowling that Eddie somehow always turns competitive. And Friday nights, well they’re—
'Margarita nights,' Steve had given. His smirk the size of the moon. His eyes glistening in excitement. His body vibrating with it. 'Nachos. And margaritas.' He’d done one of his cute little hand gestures. Nachos was his right hand jumping into the air. Margaritas was his left. Funny enough, those are also the assigned hands in which he consumes them at the restaurant.
Point is, it’s a popular date night activity."

"Steve was sitting at the dining table, hands spread out on the surface, staring down at a piece of mail when he heard Eddie clamber through the front door. Based on the string of things being dropped and Eddie not reacting negatively, just sighing a little bit and picking things up, must mean he was having a good day.
It’s funny, Steve thinks, that he knows the way in which Eddie’s emotions express when he comes through the front door of their shared space.

"Eddie got a key for Steve’s house when they first started dating. Just something that Steve did as a gesture that said, 'You’re part of my permanent fixture of people.' Which, thank God he got a key or else he wouldn’t be able to come check in on his lovely, lovely, lovely boyfriend.
Especially when said boyfriend seems to have gone dark on all the people in his life."

Summary
"Sundays were for work and complete and utter silence in their house. Now, it wasn’t for big errands like going to the bank or out grocery shopping or any of that nonsense. It was the small things. Things that could be completed over time, if necessary, but were still manageable enough that they could be done in a day or so. This was the day for house chores: laundry, mopping, vacuuming, meal prep. It was a day for: returning their DVD rentals, getting a quick tire pressure check, going through the car wash. It was another simple day of: sit in silence and bask in each other’s easy glow.
During tax season, though, Sundays were for paperwork."

Summary
"Though, the most notable thing about each time—not that the sex wasn’t hot and heavy and dirty—was that Steve insisted on keeping his top on. He was fine dropping his pants. Fine letting Eddie peel his underwear off with his teeth. But when it came to his shirt? That was a no go. Steve would clam up each time Eddie tried, shove him off, and shut down for the rest of the night. Very quickly, Eddie learned to leave his torso alone. It was a sore spot. Eddie could understand, it took a while for him to accommodate to the new scars on his skin.
At least, that’s what Eddie assumes Steve’s new insecurity is. Because there was no denying that Steve definitely had scars."

"For all the ways that the world has tried to eradicate Eddie Munson, he’s both thrilled, terrified, and surprised to have made it to fifty. To also—by his unfortunate fate—make it to the thirtieth anniversary of the day he didn’t die. That’s right, Eddie Munson almost died to demobats on his twentieth birthday on March 22nd, 1986. "Steve doesn’t know what’s wrong with him.
He’s pretty incapable of being normal about how he loves Eddie. From week two of their relationship, Steve was ready to get down on one knee and propose. Which is insane of him. They’ve been close friends since Eddie woke up in early April. And somewhere in there, Steve said the words all over again with true intent and intense feeling. Now it’s December and they’ve been together for less than a month. And Steve is driving himself up a wall.
But it makes him sick to his stomach."

"It was a bad day when Eddie hears the front door slam close. The first telltale sign that Steve’s had it rough, that he’s worked himself up, that he’s thinking too hard and too fast and needs to unwind. What comes next is the groans and the huffs and the irritated little sighs. The slamming of his thermos on the dining table. A chucked briefcase. Sneakers that, from where Eddie can see on their couch, get creased on the heel from how Steve takes them off. Never a good sign.
Just as he rocks forward to stand up from his comfortable cushion, Steve comes careening around the corner."
