Summary
Another long, anguished pause, and then Morse’s footsteps move falteringly away towards the door. He turns, only briefly, and sees her standing in the doorway of the kitchen, cups of tea balanced in her hands. She thinks his eyes might be shimmering, but at this distance it’s hard to tell, and then he is offering her a forced smile and leaving and she doesn’t know anymore.
