Summary
Astarion steps forward. “Please tell me,” he implores, attempting to lighten his tone to a kinder one, "that the fact that I am currently on the same side as Gale of all people, is enough to dissuade you from doing this.”
Adelaide lets out a light chuckle and his smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes. “Look, I know you guys are worried. Hells, it would be a lie if I said I wasn’t too.” He pauses to brush back the loose curls of hair from in front of his forehead, only for them to fall right back into place. He tends to do that a lot, Astarion has noticed, like he doesn’t know what to do with his hands. “But we don’t even know if it’s going to be that bad.”
“Well,” Gale reasons, “it is a mysterious potion made with strange mushrooms, concocted and given to us by a supposedly ‘good’ mindflayer that, really, we only met three days ago. You have to admit, that’s a fair number of unknowns.”Series

“Adelaide, darling?”
Adelaide finds himself and looks upward. Instantly, a gratefulness seeps through his mire of thoughts, like long awaited rain to at last soothe a scorched land; like a balm to a festering burn. Astarion stands before him, a hand on his hip and a distant coolness in his shoulders as he casually scans the environs of their camp. Though the group has by now parted ways for the night, no one yet seems to have gone to bed, and Adelaide suspects that all of them will discover sleep to be hard to come by.
He also suspects that he knows what Astarion’s gaze is scouring for: a select few moments for which the others simply aren’t quite paying attention.
OR
The dangers ahead bring some untold secrets to light, and both Astarion and Adelaide must determine what they want.
