The statement should have been something like an explosion. A loud bang breaking the structural integrity of the room and drawing cracks along the walls. It should have been immense, all-encompassing and destructive.
Yet it is just that. A sentence said in the unremarkable enclosure of a doctor’s office. Short and flat, as anti-climactic as it comes, and leaving him feeling so entirely empty of any sort of reaction
“Your HIV screening came back positive.”
