Summary
A while back, Elizabeth Boland (you can call her Beth) got elected as a councilor of the city of Detroit. Then she got shot in the shoulder.
Annie Marks, Beth’s sister, got arrested by the police for a crime she didn't commit. It all ended in an unbearable cliffhanger and Annie was left to rot in prison while the camera did a slow-mo zoom out of the city of Detroit. There wasn’t a sunset, though, which was a shame.
A bit further from there, Ruby and Stan Hill packed their suitcases, determined to leave town and never look back. With one decided hand, Ruby zipped her suitcase and gazed at the horizon through the window.

December 21st of that year marked the start of a dark and cold winter.
After the last couple of months, Beth had been looking forward to Christmas. Unfortunately, nothing ever seems to go to plan in Beth Boland's life, and when she finds herself lost in the woods, she can only hope someone will track her down before freezing to death.
Part two of "A Year in the Life" - you can go check it out, but I think this part could be read without too many issues if you skip the first one.
