“He was picked up in West Town on a ‘drunk and disorderly,’ with a case to be made for assault, except nobody’s willing to press charges,” Sergeant Trudy Platt informed Stella as she led her to the district’s holding cells. “And here we are.”
Stella looked through the bars of the cell at the sandy-haired man holding a napkin to his bloody nose. Instantly recognizing him, she sighed with frustration.
“Is he one of yours?” Trudy questioned.
The inmate looked up at them with a vaguely annoyed expression that quickly transformed into a drunk, sloppy grin. Pretending to salute, he said, “Evening, Lieutenant.”
Stella reluctantly nodded to Trudy. “Yeah… He belongs to me.”
