It never did anything quite like this. He laid on the dragon's feathered chest, as it gently carded its hands through his hair. It seemed content, to sit there and coddle him like a child.
Maybe some of the body's soul still lingered? If that was the case, it didn't seem to be an issue. Maybe, just maybe, it was better this way. He clutched his book to his chest, he felt weary. But sleep eludes him, and he couldn't sleep even if he wanted to.

Summary
He doesn't know why the memories haunt him now, after so long. He didn't know why they just now decided to pop up and torment him like this for no reason. It had happened so long ago far before he took the books, before Delgal was even born. It happened the first few months after he was taken in by Freinag.
Perhaps it was what happened with the demon. How violating it felt, how queasy, and the desire to run away from it all, before the demon ate that, felt.
