“I’ll pass.”
“But think of it! Two of the youngest prodigies in the whole school working together. We’d be unstoppable!”
“Don’t get me mixed up in your Gryffindor fantasies.”
Rishe only laughed. “Aren’t Hufflepuffs supposed to be nice?”
“That’s what’s called a stereotype.”

“Your spells are too long.”
Rishe startled. Turning, she came face to face with Arnold. She hadn’t even noticed him in the room–when had he even arrived?
“That, or you’re taking too much time to say them,” he stated flatly. “Speed is worth more than power in a duel most of the time: especially against that one.”
“Oh.” Rishe reflected on the battle, going over her every move, and like usual–though she would never admit it–Arnold was right. Her best spell had been summoning those birds. “I need the power, though. Senior Joel is just too strong otherwise.”
“You need to be faster, then.”

“Arnold Hein, you are going to drink these right now,” Rishe demanded, pulling out three small vials, each containing liquids of different colors and consistencies. She laid them all out in a neat little row.
“I’ll pass.” Arnold stated. He hadn’t even bothered looking at what she had brought. Rishe grit her teeth and sucked in a steadying breath. Arnold was injured, she wasn’t supposed to get mad at those who were injured.
“No.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Beg all you like. If you're not going to go to Madam Promfrey or do anything to take care of your injuries yourself, then I’ll do it.” She tapped each vial in order as she continued: “I brewed some potions to help with bruising, to relieve pain, and to stop any permanent scarring. Take them.”
“Rishe,” Arnold grit out, sending the small girl a deadly scowl. “Stop.”
“No. I’m not going to ask what happened, all I’m asking is to let me help you.”
Arnold leaned on his elbow and met her glare with pure iron. “My shoulder is cursed,” he said flatly. “Who knows how your potions will react to it.” He pushed away the vials, and Rishe scrambled to catch them before they fell. “Leave me be. I have work to finish.”

Summary
“What are you doing here? I thought you had Arithmancy at this time,” Arnold asked as Rishe slid into her usual seat beside him in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
“Hm? What do you mean?”
“Don’t play coy with me, Rishe.”
“Well my schedule says that I have Defense Against the Dark Arts right now, so I don’t know what you want me to say.”
Arnold eyed her skeptically, but made no further comments. At least with her around, the class wouldn't be nearly as dull as it was looking to be. Still, even if she wasn’t lying about her schedule, there was something that didn’t line up.
Arnold clearly remembered her writing about the “agony” of having to choose only a single class. She had told him that her parents had demanded that she focus more on business and finance, and thus she would have to take arithmancy instead of the advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts class she had wanted to take. Yet, here she was, pulling out a second-hand textbook and rolling up her sleeves with an eager grin.
He doubted that her parents had changed their minds, so had she gone against them? But despite her house, she was too afraid of disappointing them to even think of doing so. It was improbable.

Summary
Of all the trials of the Triwizard Tournament, Arnold had not imagined that the most tedious and despised one would be the practice leading up to the “Grand” Yule Ball.
“You’re a good dancer,” Rishe whispered, barely audible over the conversation just a few meters away. There was a smear of ink on her left thumb. Arnold reached over and swiped it off, ignoring the way she blinked in shock.
“The question is, are you?”
Rishe was the next up for individual dances, another useless test for another worthless grade. She scrunched up her nose at the comment, tipping her head up indignantly. “I’ll have you know that I have been forced to take lessons since the day I could walk. It would be a grave dishonor to my family name if I could not.”
“Weitzner and Rasha.”
Arnold went stiff at the last name, ice pooling in his veins. Of all the partners that she could have been assigned—Zahad Rasha, Zahad’s own partner Aneesa Mehri, or prodigious Yang Jiayuan from Renhua—this was quite possibly the outcome he wanted the least.

“This is it everyone! Everything we’ve worked for has led us to this moment. You’ve worked day and night; through sun, snow, and hail; honing each of your skills to absolute perfection.” Rishe paused to take in the expressions of her fellow teammates, ensuring that all their attention was singularly focused on her before continuing. “Slytherin wants to see us all defeated. They will stop at nothing to win this final battle for the victor's cup. But are we going to let them steal it from us?”
“No, Captain!”
“That’s right. Today is our day to regain the cup from Slytherin’s hands, today we will bring honor back to the tower of Gryffindor where the trophy will sit for another victorious year! Now, let’s get out there and show Slytherin what our house is made of!”
Cheers echoed throughout the tent, the spirits of her teammates were lifted as adrenaline coursed through each of their veins.
“Now let’s head out, they’ll be calling us into the stadium soon.”
Everyone grabbed their brooms and began filing out of the tent. Rishe remained only to catch her breath. Her hands were shaking, forcing her to wrap them tightly around her broom in hopes they would still.
“That was quite the speech.”

Summary
Their last year. It was their last year at Hogwarts. ln fact, it was their last official day. There was nothing less surreal.
Rishe had been here for so long that it was more of a home than her parents’ mansion had ever been. It felt…wrong to think that she would no longer be a student here. That she would only be able to stare at the school’s silhouette from afar in a few days once she left, unable to step back inside.
She already had a career lined up far away from her parents' watchful gaze—not that it mattered, since she’d been disowned only two weeks prior.
“Rishe, what are you doing?” Arnold asked, standing behind her as Rishe stared out over the castle grounds from the highest tower.
“It’s the last day of school before graduation. I wanted to take it all in,” Rishe answered, taking in a deep breath of air from the early dawn. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Arnold moved to stand beside her, placing his hand atop her own. Staring contentedly at Rishe, he hummed in agreement. “It is.”
