Tony hasn't been having an easy time handling his panics and flashbacks since the whole ordeal with Extremis. It's strained every relationship in his life, to the point he's lost the one person he felt closest with. Now, alone with his machines, he can't help but fall into the spirals of hopelessness.
Through it all, there's one man who answers the call when Tony needs a friend, despite Tony's strong belief the Captain doesn't care for him. Maybe there's more to this friendship than Tony thought, and maybe there really is something here worth holding onto.
